Since reopening in 2009, the award-winning Universum Filmtheater has been Braunschweig's only arthouse cinema. Alongside a carefully selected program of feature films and documentaries, the cinema regularly welcomes directors for audience discussions. Special film series such as "Sound on Screen," "DOK am Montag," and "Cinema! Italia!" cater to a wide range of cinematic interests. In addition to its two screening rooms, the Universum also features its own cinema bistro, "Abspann," where visitors can round off their evening with food and drinks.
