Cinémathèque Leipzig

Cinema as a networking platform: artistic, utopian, and political. Starting November 12, 2026, the Cineville pass will also be valid at the Cinémathèque.

The Cinémathèque Leipzig was founded in 1991 and sees itself as a venue for cultural and social engagement with and about film—across all art forms. The cinema screens current theatrical releases in their original language with subtitles, selected films in (new) thematic and artistic contexts, curated film series, and experimental works pushing the boundaries of film, accompanied by film talks, discussions, introductions, and exhibitions. In addition, the Cinémathèque offers practitioners, institutions, and individuals a platform to network and collaborate on projects and topics.

The main venue is the Ciné at Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 109, but other venues include the NATO and the summer movie locations 7cl and Dölitzer Wassermühle.

The Cinémathèque Leipzig is run by an association that is largely made up of volunteers.
