Up to seven different films are shown each day in two theaters at staggered times; on Sundays, there are sometimes nine. Located in the heart of Babelsberg – one of Europe's most renowned filmmaking districts – the Thalia Programmkino is a beloved neighborhood cinema and an integral part of cultural life in Potsdam. Offering films for both the heart and the mind, it has been bringing outstanding cinema to audiences for generations.

Throughout its hundred-year history, the cinema has lived through five political systems and numerous crises. Today, it remains a vibrant meeting place for film lovers and was named Germany's Best Arthouse Cinema in 2016.

Thalia Potsdam

The Thalia Programmkino is a beloved neighborhood cinema and a key part of cultural life in Babelsberg and Potsdam.

Founded in 1979 by a group of film enthusiasts, the cinema was created to bring “the great classics and the promising new unknowns” to Fürth. Today, the Uferpalast is located in the Kulturforum (formerly a slaughterhouse) and continues to be run by the members of the Kinokooperative Fürth. Operated entirely by volunteers, it offers daily screenings in both digital and analogue formats, presenting films that its members consider truly worth seeing.

The program includes “the new and the great, the old and still great,” as well as silent films with live accompaniment, curated film series, and discussions.

The cinema is a member of the Bundesverband kommunale Filmarbeit e.V. (German Association of Municipal Cinemas).

Uferpalast (Sommerpause bis 23.9.)

Since 1979, the Kinokooperative Fürth has been bringing both great classics and promising new discoveries to the city.

Since reopening in 2009, the award-winning Universum Filmtheater has been Braunschweig's only arthouse cinema. Alongside a carefully selected program of feature films and documentaries, the cinema regularly welcomes directors for audience discussions. Special film series such as "Sound on Screen," "DOK am Montag," and "Cinema! Italia!" cater to a wide range of cinematic interests. In addition to its two screening rooms, the Universum also features its own cinema bistro, "Abspann," where visitors can round off their evening with food and drinks.
