A bustling family. Mum Ella (Birgit Minichmayr), teenager Jessie and little Melli. A holiday is coming up, and the children are squabbling over the room they’ll have to share. But the trip doesn’t go ahead, because Jessie dies on this beautiful summer’s evening. Her boyfriend Lux might have been able to prevent the accident. Two years later, the film picks up the thread again. Everyday life has returned for Ella and Melli, but nothing is normal; every moment can become a fissure through which grief seeps in. Lux seems to be feeling the same way, and the three of them drift towards one another and into an increasingly surreal world …

In EVERYTIME, Sandra Wollner (THE TROUBLE WITH BEING BORN) captures a parallel world in which the bereaved move. It bears a striking resemblance to the world of those who are not grieving, but time, space and logic function differently here. Winner of the Best Film Award at Cannes in the ‘Un certain regard’ section in 2026.
