The Cineville-Preview

Hardly any other filmmaker has worked with so many legendary actors and actresses and produced masterpieces at such a high frequency as Martin Scorsese. This autumn and winter, Studio Kino Hamburg is taking the time to explore his filmography. Among others, TAXI DRIVER (1976), in which Robert De Niro plays the volatile veteran Travis Bickle, THE KING OF COMEDY (1982), in which De Niro plays the second-rate comedian Rupert Pupkin, and CASINO (1995), in which he plays professional gambler Sam ‘Ace’ Rothstein, will be shown.

Bond. James Bond. Sixty years ago, the British MI6 agent appeared on cinema screens for the first time. Since then, entire generations have travelled the world with him, learned about his licence to kill – and how a man drinks his martini. As a pop culture icon, 007 is a projection screen for the desires (and dislikes) of his audience; the films are astonishingly accurate barometers of social trends and developments.

To mark the agent's 60th anniversary on the silver screen, Casablanca Nuremberg has teamed up with the Institute of English and American Studies at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg to launch a James Bond film series. On the fourth Monday of every month, the cinema will show ALL Bond films in (almost) chronological order. All guests of the Bond series receive an almost real British passport – and an entry stamp for each screening. Four stamps earn you a free martini.

Just in time for Walpurgis Night, the Metropolis Cinema in Hamburg is launching its new ‘Retro Horror’ programme series with the silent film HÄXAN. In addition, numerous classics and ‘hidden gems’ from horror history will be shown until the end of November in regular late-night screenings.

Throughout 2025, the Hackesche Höfe cinema will be showing a classic DEFA film once a month – always on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. – in analogue 35mm cinema projection. Afterwards, there will be a small reception in the foyer.

Most films are screened with English subtitles!

The ‘Best of Cinema’ series presents restored film classics and successful cinema hits from recent years back on the big screen. The focus is often on productions from the 1980s to 2000s.

Screenings take place on the first Tuesday of the month, but you can usually catch a screening on the following days as well.

Best of Cinema

Every month, Queer Film Night shows a new, non-heterosexual film from the international festival scene. It takes place regularly in over 40 cinemas in Germany and Austria and is presented by the online magazine www.sissymag.de. Each film is discussed by sissy in a detailed review.

Films are always shown in the original language with German subtitles.

Analogue cinema is alive and kicking! Unlike digital cinema, analogue cinema is still a magical act that transforms reality in front of the camera into a substantial and timeless apparition on the screen. This magic is regularly celebrated at the Cineville cinemas Hackesche Höfe Berlin, Filmhaus/KommKino Nuremberg and Metropolis Hamburg.
