In 1958, the ‘Studio am Weisshaus’ was built as an additional auditorium for the ‘Theater am Weisshaus’; in 1979, the small auditorium with 72 seats was added; and from 2010, OFF Kinobetriebs GmbH took over the cinema and carefully renovated it without detracting from its 1950s charm. The programme focuses on screening films in their original language with German subtitles. Previews and premieres are organised at irregular intervals, sometimes in collaboration with Cologne-based cultural institutions and/or the FilmSociety. Every Saturday and Sunday, the KidsKino takes place, showing almost exclusively European children’s films, and all films in the programme can also be booked for school screenings. The RE:SCREEN film series, curated by staff members, brings classic films to the big screen.
