Founded in 1979 by a group of film enthusiasts, the cinema was created to bring “the great classics and the promising new unknowns” to Fürth. Today, the Uferpalast is located in the Kulturforum (formerly a slaughterhouse) and continues to be run by the members of the Kinokooperative Fürth. Operated entirely by volunteers, it offers daily screenings in both digital and analogue formats, presenting films that its members consider truly worth seeing.
The program includes “the new and the great, the old and still great,” as well as silent films with live accompaniment, curated film series, and discussions.
The cinema is a member of the Bundesverband kommunale Filmarbeit e.V. (German Association of Municipal Cinemas).
